This is the 5 ways to measure your visitor stickiness or loyalty using Feedburner and Google Analytic web analysis tools:

  1. Your RSS Subscriber
  2. Depth Of Visit
  3. Length of Visit
  4. Loyalty
  5. Visitor Recency

*Google Analytic will track Depth Of Visit, Length Of Visit, Loyalty and Visitor Recency Factor.


RSS Subscriber

Sign up Feedburner and use feedburner wordpress plugin to measure your number of RSS subscriber. RSS subscriber will be a new tools act as mailing list in this new internet world. The more subscriber you have, the more return traffic you will received, and the more possible affiliate sales you can make.

Loyalty

Sign up and set up your google analytic now. You will find this tracking feature under Google Analytic->Visitors->Visitor Loyalty->Loyalty

It will show how many TIMES your visitors have return to your site. The report show, 2nd, 3rd, and etc of your percentage return visitors.

Visitor Recency

Under Google Analytic->Visitors->Visitor Loyalty->Visitor Recency

It’s helpful to know how OFTEN is your visitor come back to your site, so that you can know a rough figure how often you need to post your blog post. Whether it’s daily, weekly, or other, you can help to improve it. This figure might not tell much about your visitor loyalty, but if you have post your blog post daily but you have big percentage of visitors visit your blog weekly, you are not doing a good job in stickiness.

Length Of Visit

Under Google Analytic->Visitors->Visitor Loyalty->Length Of Visit

This also another indicator of how sticky is your site. How long do they spend visit and browsing your site? 1 second, 2 minutes or other? The longer the better too. If you lost most of your traffic in a second, you website is not that sticky, and you really need to do something about it.

Depth of Visit

Under Google Analytic->Visitors->Visitor Loyalty->Depth Of Visit

The more depth of visit or more pages of visit, the better. If you have more depth visit, it’s show that your website content is more relevant and your visitor is more like to explore your website. Again, this figure didn’t help much to create the next action plan to improve your website stickiness, but it’s a helpful figure to watch to know your current progress.

The More Effective Way To Measure And Improve

All this measurement only tell you what is your current status and didn’t create much room for improvement.

The better way to use this information is combine the 5 measurement with your source (keyword, stumble page and etc) and your doorway/landing page.

For example, you have to know what keyword and landing page result in more RSS subscriber, Loyalty, Visitor Recency, Depth Of Visit, Length Of Visit then give more exposure and create more weight for that doorway page. You can use google Analytic to slice that information out.

Once you know your Good Doorway Page. This is something simple you can work on to improve your visitor loyalty straight away - give High Exposures for your good doorway page!

Where are the high exposures spot? You can putting good doorway page at the top of website sidebar or bottom of recommend reading post, or any place that show “HOT SPOT” from heatmap analysis.
