Cash In For CareerRamblings.com

We just read that CareerRamblings.com has sold for US20,000 from Kumiko post. It’s really not bad for about 6 months work.

So we decide to do some case study on CareerRamblings.com

This is the Alexa traffic chart for CareerRamblings.com. As you can see, they kind of started in Jan 2007, and at one point they have around 600 visitors a day. *( We make some mistake mention that’s 6,000 ) Of course, we know it’s more then that since not all the user use Alexa toolbars in their browser, so it’s just a rough estimation.

Great JOB

We think they did a fantastic job to network around with the “network hub” and manage to get high page ranking site to link to them also.

The “network hub” blog has send them tremendous amount of traffic to their site. You might be wondering what does it mean “network hub” blog. Network hub blog is the blog that have high traffic, and has become a place for people to network around and hang out.

Our good network and PR friends once told me that ..

If you go to a party, you don’t have all the time to talk to everyone, choose the person you want to talk to, either a “network hub” person or people you can connect with. Introduce yourself, spend sometime, have some good conversation and get to know each other better.

You don’t want to leave the party with a lot of name card or phone number, that you can’t really call them the next day. End of the day, all you need is one of two phone number number that you can call; And you have meet your networking object if they can remember who you are and what you do.

We think this apply to blog building also, and it’s seem like Jane May did pretty well in that area.

Besides that, what really impress us is CareerRamblings also manage to find some “loop” hole to have high page google ranking site to link the site which are not to us to disclose here.

Something YOU can Improve ON

Anyway, even though the site have around 3,000 visitors a day and high Google PageRank, but we feel like this blog is still don’t have a “system” in place to make it auto pilot to bring in quality traffic. Most of the traffic come from networking around and refer from “network hub” blog, it’s will be gone if they stop network around or they sell the blog.

What is valuable here will be the Google PageRank, But sorry to say that they really did a terrible job to bring in traffic from search engine and convert new visitor to return visitor. And we can see that they start losing focus. Lucky they have sold it! If not they will lose their reader eventually.

What we think about the PRICE?

We think paying US20,000 is a bit expensive because when you buy a business, the most valuable in the business is the brand, system and people ( customer and employee ). In CareerRambling, they don’t have the traffic system, and Jane will be gone! Maybe Branding? Hmm, maybe … but we doubt it:)

Definitely, the new owner of CareerRamblings.com still got a lot of work to do to make this a good investment.

If the new owner thought that he can seat there, write some contents and constantly cash in the US1,800 monthly advertising income and one year later to get his investment back. That will be very *wrong* assumption.

We would rather pay US50,000 for a site that have constant 1,000 visitors a day traffic that doing nothing to network around, 4 google page rank but already have system in place, able to attract or hire great people and good brand name. And of course, tremendous potential to work on and double it’s income in 6 months too!

Well, this is our analysis for CareerRamblings.com from the selling and buying business point of view.

But we have learn something new here from CareerRamblings.com because for the work of 6 months and get Google PageRank 6, hmm, this is definitely impressive:)
