Photoblog
A blog composed entirely of images, sometimes with caption information
A ping occurs when one computer asks another whether it’s there; the second computer confirms its presence. In the blogosphere, many bloggers ping blog-aggregation Web sites to update that site when posting a new entry.
Just as blogging allows individuals to publish for themselves and their audience, podcasting allows individuals to create online broadcasts for themselves and their audience. Podcasting is the technique of creating a show as an MP3 file, and then updating a feed with the location of the show.
A special feed reader then automatically downloads the show to a music device. Podcasts are provided by amateurs around the world and can be fed directly to your portable music player. The beauty of podcasting is in the convenience: no more missing an important show because you aren’t near a radio. Listeners are in control of when they listen to the program.
A publication to a blog, possibly containing text, images, and other media. A post may also be called an entry.
RSS stands for Really Simple Syndication and, like Atom, is an XML-based feed of a blog’s postings that’s picked up by blog-aggregation sites or software.
As in real life, where you can be referred to a doctor, a referrer is the person who sent you to a specific blog. It can be important to know who is sending you traffic so that you are aware
of who is talking about you. Services such as Technorati, PubSub, and BlogPulse can also track this information for you.
As you can access e-mail via web-based e-mail and via your desktop e-mail client, feeds can be read either via a web-based feed reader or a desktop feed reader. Both types of feed
readers work equally well. Some feed readers can be added to other programs such as Microsoft Outlook, Internet Explorer, Mozilla FireFox, and a variety of other popular applications.
Moblog is short for mobile blog, and moblogging is short for mobile blogging. Moblogging is simply the practice of posting content to a blog while not in front of a computer (from a PDA, phone, or camera, for instance). A moblog is a blog that is the result of mobile blogging.
Short for permanent link. This is a page of a blog that contains a single blog posting, which is easy to link to when referencing that post.
A collector of information about a topic or idea. An aggregator can be a person, blog, or Web site. Technologically speaking, RSS is an aggregation format for individual blogs. Google News is an example of a Web site that aggregates news for many sources.
