In a nutshell cloaking is a situation where the content of a web page can differ depending on ‘who is asking’. In less controversial situations content optimized for different browsers could be served based on the detected browser.
More often though, the term is used to refer to relatively technical attempts to trick the search engines agents by showing them different, highly targeted content.
Bot
Bot is another word for spider, or crawler. From the word “robot,” a bot is a software program that ‘robotically’ performs functions, such as indexing information on the Internet.
Anchor Text
Anchor text is the text that comprises the link when viewed on the page. For example in this dummy link, the anchor text is the phrase “dummy link”.
ALT text Text appearing when you put your mouse on top of an image or a picture. Used for text based browsers.
Angel
An investor in early-stage companies who generally invests more money on more serious financial terms than a friend or family member, but less money ( and on less stringent terms ) than a venture capital firm
ASP
Application Service Provider. An ASP provides access to software through the Internet, often for a monthly fee. Constrast this with traditional software providers who sell a program package that user install and host on their own computers for a one-time purchase price or recurring license fee.
B2B
Short for “business to business”. Refers to a business activity that targets other busineses as its customers (instead of targeting consumers).
B2C
Short for “business to consumer”. Refers to a business activity that targets retails consumers as its customer (instead of targeting other business).
