A highly optimized page existing solely for the purpose of attracting traffic to the site and created for search engine rather than human consumption. Often the doorway page will redirect visitors to a user-friendly page with a fast meta-refresh.
In a nutshell cloaking is a situation where the content of a web page can differ depending on ‘who is asking’. In less controversial situations content optimized for different browsers could be served based on the detected browser.
More often though, the term is used to refer to relatively technical attempts to trick the search engines agents by showing them different, highly targeted content.
