Hoobin.com Upgrade To 3 Column Theme? - Screen Resolution Analysis

We being thinking to upgrade our hoobin.com theme to 3 column. We think by moving to 3 column theme look will help us to build our image stronger as “the definitive source for make money online“.

We know couple of bloggers in the make money online blogosphere have move their blog to 3 column theme. To have 3 column theme look will definitely help to monetize the site better since it’s have more space to put sponsor ads and links. But we don’t want to make this our primary focus and factor for us to move to 3 column theme look in Hoobin.

Primary Focus

Our primary focus is always about how we help our readers to make money online by providing the resources they need. When we first started, we think our main target audiences will have the screen resolution of 1024×768 and 800×600.

When we change it to 3 column, the site will definitely look bad for those who have resolution less then 1024×768. So those who are using 800×600 resolution will probably leave our site.

Our Screen Resolution Analysis

Anyway, we go to our google analytic application to do the screen resolution analysis. The current statistic show that our main visitors have the resolution of 1024×768 and 1280×1024.

And most of our visitors have resolution more then 1024×768. Base on calculation, it seem like our visitor who have screen resolution more then 1024×768 is about 80% which is really high.

Still this statistic figure doesn’t mean that we should change it to 3 columns yet.

Our Main Target Audience

What is important is which group of resolution reader will find our site interesting when we optimize the site for 1024×768 and 800×600. So we dig deeper into our analysis using google analytic again. We use page visit as an indicator for us here to determine whether who will find our site interesting or not. The winner is still readers who have screen resolution more then 1024×768. Here is the statistic.

So the visitors who have the screen resolution of 1024×768, 640×480 and 1280×720 will find our site interesting and read more pages. This become easier for us to make this decision to go for 3 column. We might even capture more audience from high resolution reader after we redesign our themes to 3 column.

Anyway, we now can start working on our 3 column themes, and you should be able to view our NEW LOOK in this coming September:)

If you like to do the same analysis, go to google analytic -> visitors -> browser capability -> Screen Resolutions and do the slicing whether to view in total number of visits or page views and more.

Well, what do you think? Do you think our decision to go for 3 column themes is right for us? Your input is always valuable to us.

Now you’ve got me thinking. Only 3.68% of my readers use 800×600, so as soon as I have time, I’m going to exand to 3 columns, too. Thanks for the tip!
