How To Make Your Site More Sticky?

This is the question we ask ourselves too. It’s seem like the old convention wisdom from website don’t really work that well in this area - Sticky.

In the early day, website are design as brochure, not really sticky in the first place:) Can you remember the last brochure you read … I can’t, unless I start taking up action to talk to the sales person and circle out the information I want.

I guess this is the same apply for our website. To be able to allow our visitor to take action and start a conversation is what make a website stick! This is like building a brand for a company, and now the hottest trend in marketing for building a brand is Experience Marketing. Experience is one of the main factor for stickiness and brand. People will remember, feel, touch and recognized your company better if they have an “experience” with your company.

For online world, how we create experience for our visitors - do they like our navigation, do they like to talk us? What make them want to talk to us? Hmmm, interesting things for us to look into it…

Experience Marketing In Blog

First, people might want to talk to you because they feel you as HUMAN, not a website or company. People no longer interested about what is your vision, mission and value in About Page. People are interested about YOU, the people behind this corporation, the people behind this website - who you are, what you do, and how you can help. This will motivated people want to talk to you. This is will make your website more sticky then million corporate/portal website out there, including us:)

How To Know Whether We Are Sticky Or Not?

Yes, we are crazy about system & measurement, we have set up Google analytic to measure how sticky is our website, one of the main measurement we track is using Google analytic to track our RSS subscription and bounce rate. And you know what, the result is terrible!

Well, at first we thought that we are in this new industry - Make Money Online, not a very good industry to brand when most people thought that all the online marketer are in for Quick Money, Dirty Trick and Desperate For Attention.

Trust is definitely a BIG issues in “make money online” blog compare to tech, entertainment, career and etc topic.

We really need to take extra effort to take care of this. Unfortunately, we didn’t realize this problem until we look at our statistic when we have more traffic 6 months later on. We certainly like the concept of Gary mention that if you can retain 10 visitors a day, you will have 300 visitors a month later and 30,000 visitors 10 months later. This is certainly something we can work on.

Even though we like to think our site as a website rather then blog ( old habit ), but I think majority visitors will see us like a blog - and it’s time for us to be more like a blog. And besides that, to have basic blog web design/usability checklist is just not enough, you need to get more sticky too!

How To Gain Stickiness For Our Web Design And Site?

This are the few things we can think of to improve our site for stickiness and you might find it useful too:

• Be more unique in topic
• Be relevant to your visitor
• Put you & your team faces on your site
• Use beautiful photo on blog post
• Great web design
• Unique Logo
• Show some principal and personality
• Encourage more conversation in the blog
• Be controversy
• Be opinionated

This is something I can think of now, I think the list might be longer then this, we still have some homework to do to improve our stickiness. What do you guys think? What is your trick to make your site sticky more sticky??
