Step 5 : Ftp And Replace With Old File
All the wordpress come with zip file, you can use your ftp application to upload to your server. There are two way to do this. You either upload and replace the the necessary file or you can upload and replace the whole folder except /wp-content/ folder which have your own plugin and theme inside.
Step 6 : Upgrade Database Using /wp-admin/upgrade.php
Go to http://www.yourdomain/wp-admin/upgrade.php
This page script will automatically run and upgrade the wordpress database scheme.
Step 7 : Test Out Whether It’s Work Or Not
Check out your main page, category page and single page. And then login to post at least a post and page to see whether it’s working properly or not.
Lastly, If it’s work, great. If not, you have to find out what is the problem. If you are upgrade directly in your production server. The best way is roll back using your backup databases, because you don’t want your visitor to see the error page.
Anyway, this is a standard guideline for upgrading wordpress. It’s really easy, if you are just started out with Wordpress, you can play around with it by installing the old version and try to upgrade it to the new version. Once you are more confident about the upgrading process, it’s become easier.
