Promote Independence Product Or Your Own Product?
What is the best way to monetize your blog? There is no best answer for this, but it’s strongly depend on your blog nature.
If you blog is more like a portal website, have a lot of general information and input from user. We think it’s best to stick to vertical strategy and vertical positioning.
What Is Vertical Positioning?
When your site is position as vertical portal. What you will do is recommend the “best” independence product out there that related to your topic instead of your own product. This is where you only promote best affiliate products to your visitor and maximize the monetization of your blog.
The “best” independence product will have a life circle. Independence product come and product go. The main advantage to position as vertical portal is … eventually “best” product come and go, but your site continue to stay to serve and to promote the best independence product out there. So stay neutral if you like to position as vertical portal!
Own Product
If you only promote your own product in your website, and strongly associate your site to your product information, you can too. But you risk your site to follow the product life cycle. When your product is popular, your site is popular. When you product is not popular, then you site is getting no popular.
So when you stick to your own product, you need to constantly come up with new product to meet the new market demand and beat the product life cycle. So this is something that you need to be consider early when you only promote your own product in your site.
Our Recommendation
Can you promote both? Yes you can, unless you really show the neutral and fairness to all the product that you promote, but it’s no easy. So don’t do it! It’s best to create your own product site if you have to promote your own product.
If your blog talk about general topic in certain niche ( most blog do ). We recommend vertical portal strategy when building your own site, this allow your site to be more profitable in long run.
When you are promoting your own product, try to keep it simple and use affiliate program to leverage on other people portal website. Don’t blog about general topic, this allow you to be very focus to save your cost and energy. You need to be effective and spend more time with your affiliate and distribution channel to bring in traffic and close sales.
